Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gisela, her family, and friends.

It’s very very sad news for Twilight fans as one of our own was struck by a car and killed while crossing the street outside of Hall H at Comic Con Tuesday in San Diego. The woman was unconscious as a result of the hit, and was taken to the nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the woman, identified as Twitter user @Mad4Hugh named Gisela, her family and friends.

The 53-year-old, identified as Gisella G. in news reports, was struck by a passing car when she tried to run across the street toward the San Diego Convention Center against the light around 9 a.m. Tuesday. She suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

The studio that produces and distributes the “Twilight” movies was equally saddened by the tragic news and sent the following statement to MTV News:

“Lionsgate, Summit and the entire Twilight community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year’s convention in San Diego. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends. She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H.”

Judging from the studio’s statement regarding plans to pay respects to Gisella during the “Breaking Dawn” panel Thursday, the fan-generated a Twitter petition that requested a moment of silence in honor of Gisella has been heard and well-received. The supportive fanbase also started a fundraiser to help her family pay for her funeral expenses.

“Twilight” fans were quick to mourn the loss of a fellow Twilighter upon learning the news, which spread rapidly via Twitter, and sent out countless messages of sympathy via the social-networking site using the hashtags #RIPTwiFanG and #FandomIsFamily.

To the rest of the Twilight fans (and everyone else) at Comic Con this week, please BE SAFE!
