George Soros- The Philanthropist with Pro-Democracy Sentiments

In a recent post in the business insider, George Soros, a Hungarian billionaire investor has described the newly elected U.S. president, Donald Trump, as a con-man and potential dictator. While speaking at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Soros stated the reasons why he would want president Trump to fail. One of his primary reasons was that the president stands for a mafia state or dictatorship instead of a democratic society. George Soros was an ardent supporter of Clinton’s bid for the presidency and is known to have donated handsomely towards her campaign.

Reasons Why Democracy is Endangered

According to Soros, democracy is endangered because the U.S. president is a con artist and a potential dictator. Soros attributes these allegations to Trump’s behavior and advisers. George Soros also adds that Trump’s cabinet comprises retired generals and incompetent extremists. Although Soros believes that the U.S. constitution and authorities such as the fourth estate will resist an excessively powerful executive thus preventing a scenario on Forbes where a potential dictator becomes one, he is fearful for the fate awaiting the rest of the world.

Soros claims that the U.S. will have its hands full with the internal challenges and as a result targeted minorities will be the most affected. In the long run, the U.S. will fail to promote and protect democracy around the world. Trump will instead have a greater affection towards dictators. This will allow most of these dictators to be accommodated by the U.S. and some to continue with their dictatorship on Politico. Trump will opt for deals instead of defending democratic principles.

Soros is particularly concerned about the EU which is threatened by the influence of Vladimir Putin, the Russian president. Putin’s idea of government is opposed to open society. From the start, Putin wanted to exercise control over social media. He exploited social media to spread fake news and misinformation, destabilizing democracies and disorienting electorates. This strategy helped Trump’s bid for presidency on Soros is afraid that the same tactics will be applied in European elections in Germany, Italy, and Netherlands. With the refugees’ crisis spiraling beyond control and the lagging of economic growth, Soros believes that the European Union is set to go through what the Soviet Union experienced in the 1990s.

Soros Philanthropic Efforts

George Soros grew up subjected to authoritarian rule, a Hungarian Jew who was forced to flee the atrocities of Hitler’s regime. Soros’s philanthropy has been mainly dedicated towards democratic ideals. His philanthropy is based on building tolerant and vibrant democracies. Soros has made grants amounting to $8 billion in the last three decades he has been involved in philanthropy. George Soros’ donations in Eastern Europe have been made to help countries that were formerly under the Soviet bloc to transform into democracies.

Keith Mann Gives To Uncommon Schools

A new charter school is being opened in a local community of New York City. It is affiliated with Uncommon School an organization that aims to lower the achievement gap between low and high income students. Historically, low income students have suffered from many financial impediments that make it harder for them to get ahead in life. Keith Mann sees the problem in his local community of Brooklyn and he decided to get involved by making a difference. Keith held a fundraiser at the Standard Hotel Beer Garden in which he invited members of the financial services community. Many people came out because they were inspired by Keith’s call to arms. A total of $22,000 was raised that evening and the money went into the hands of Uncommon Schools where it will be put to good use in the upcoming school year.

Keith gave a speech that evening in which he complimented Uncommon Schools. Keith has seen the effects of poverty and he does not believe that students should be at a disadvantage just because their family does not earn enough money to pay their testing fees. Keith’s passion led him to reach into his own wallet and write a check for $10,000 which will be used to cover testing fees for worthy students. Keith respects and supports the goals of Uncommon Schools and he wants to be an active part of that mission for years to come. He believes in equal opportunity.

A new Uncommon Schools charter school has just opened up in Brooklyn. The students there will have their PSAT and AP testing covered during the upcoming school year thanks to people like Keith Mann. Keith’s company, Dynamic Search Partners, is located in New York City and so it wants to be responsible towards other people living in the area.

Keith believes that the best way to help students succeed in life is to get them the tactical and practical skills they need to do jobs.
