Baseball has become one channel for Kelcy Warren’s community work. The Energy Transfer founder fostered a partnership between his company and the Texas Rangers, and through it he has been a strong supporter of the West Dallas Youth Academy since 2018. A company blog post from September 2024 highlights the effort.
What the Academy Does
The West Dallas Youth Academy gives local young people a place to play baseball and softball, with coaching and organized programs. For families in West Dallas, it offers structured activities close to home. Corporate partnerships like the one with Energy Transfer help pay for that work.
A Wider Focus on Young People
Youth causes appear throughout Kelcy Warren‘s giving. The post says he supports the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, which helps children who have experienced abuse, and the March of Dimes, which works on maternal and infant health. He also backs schools from the grade school level through university.
His education gifts have been especially large. Kelcy Warren, a 1978 graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, gave the school $12 million in 2023, the largest single donation in its history. He had earlier made 10 gifts to UTA worth $4 million over 25 years, including a graduate fellowship honoring his former professor Syed Qasim.
Families in Dallas also benefit from Klyde Warren Park, which his $10 million donation in 2012 helped create. A $20 million follow-up gift is expanding the 5.2-acre park and adding more free programs.
His professional honors include recognition from Hart Energy, D CEO Magazine, and the Texas Oil & Gas Association. He is a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans as well.
The baseball partnership may be smaller in dollar terms than a university gift. Even so, it reaches kids directly, on the field, every season. That kind of hands-on community support has been part of Kelcy Warren’s giving for more than six years. Refer to this article for additional information.
