Franky Bernstein has created an innovative AI project: a therapeutic Jewish grandmother you can call on the phone. The AI, affectionately called “Bubby,” is designed to provide a comforting and supportive conversational experience.
“I believe that there is nothing more healing than talking to your grandma and I decided to build a nice Jewish bubby that you can call,” Bernstein explains in his announcement video. This AI grandma remembers personal details about callers, including their names and life situations, creating a personalized experience.
While the AI is still “very much a work in progress,” Bernstein has made it publicly available, sharing the phone number for anyone to call. Though created with Jewish cultural elements, Bernstein emphasizes inclusivity, stating “You don’t have to be Jewish to call her. You just have to be nice.”
Bernstein envisions expanding the AI’s capabilities in the future, potentially integrating it into his Nice Jewish platform to help with matchmaking and career networking. He signs off his announcement with “Shabbat shalom” and a heartfelt reminder: “If you have grandparents who are alive, please call them first, not Bubby, but if not, call Bubby and say hi.”
